Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions ⭐

Are you licensed?

Yes! I am a Licensed Cosmetologist in the state of Rhode Island with over 24 years of experience. Additionally, I am a certified Lash Lift Technician.

Rhode Island requires all Lash Lift Technicians to hold a professional license—such as a Cosmetology or Esthetician license—mandated by the Rhode Island Department of Health. Choosing a licensed, trained, and skilled professional ensures that proper procedures and safety protocols are always followed for your protection and peace of mind.

Lash Lift:

What is a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a treatment that enhances your natural eyelashes, giving them a semi-permanent lift and curl, and gives the appearance of longer, curlier lashes without the need for lash extensions. A lash lift lasts about 4 to 8 weeks, depending on how quickly your lashes grow. Basically, until your lashes naturally fall out and are replaced with new growth.

What should I do to prepare for the Lash Lift service?

Please arrive with absolutely no makeup on your eyes. This includes but is not limited to:

  • No eyeshadow

  • No eyeliner

  • No mascara

  • No lash extensions

If you remove eye makeup on the same day as the lash lift service, you run the risk of the lashes not lifting, eye irritation and/or having an unforeseen allergic reaction. If you arrive wearing eye makeup, mascara or eyeliner, a $25 makeup removal fee will be added to your service.

How long does a Lash Lift take?

The lash lift service typically takes about 45 minutes to complete.

If you choose to add a lash conditioning treatment or an eyelash tint—both of which enhance the results—please allow an additional 15 minutes for your appointment.

Does the Lash Lift treatment hurt?

The treatment is completely painless! Many clients find it relaxing and even take the opportunity to rest or nap during their appointment.

Is the Lash Lift Safe?

Yes! The treatment is designed with your safety in mind. Your eyelashes are carefully lifted onto specially shaped silicone pads to ensure that none of the products come into contact with your eyes.

In Rhode Island, lash lifts are required by law to be performed only by licensed cosmetologists or estheticians, ensuring proper training and adherence to safety standards.

How long does a Lash Lift last?

When performed by a professional and followed by proper aftercare, a lash lift can last up to 8 weeks. The duration varies depending on your natural lash growth cycle, which differs from person to person.

Unlike lash extensions, lash lifts do not require maintenance appointments between treatments. However, the process can be repeated after about 5 weeks to lift new lash growth.

Certain factors may cause your lash lift to weaken or drop prematurely, including:

  • Swimming

  • Use of harsh skincare products around the eyes

  • Frequent eye rubbing

  • Exposure to heat

Additionally, lash serums, biotin supplements, and certain medications can affect your lash growth cycle and may result in faster lash shedding.

Does a Lash Lift make my eyelashes longer or thicker?

A lash lift does not add length, only lifts and curls your natural lashes to give the appearance of longer lashes.

Is a Lash Lift worth it for short eyelashes?

In most cases, yes! However, if your natural lashes are extremely short, they may not properly adhere to the silicone rods used during the lift, which can limit the effectiveness of the treatment.

For the best results, natural lashes should ideally be medium to long in length. If your lashes are shorter, using a lash growth serum prior to your appointment can help improve lash length and enhance lift results.

Are my lashes long enough for a lash lift?

For the best results, your natural lashes should be at least 5mm in length before receiving a lash lift. If your lashes are shorter, we recommend using a lash growth serum beforehand to help them reach the ideal length. Clients have the option to purchase GrandeLASH-MD Lash Enhancing Serum when scheduling their appointment. Using a lash serum prior to your service can significantly improve lift results and overall lash health.

I wear contact lenses, can I have this treatment?

Yes, but the contacts MUST BE REMOVED before the treatment begins. They can be put back in after the treatment is complete.

I currently have lash extensions on, can I get a Lash Lift?

NO! A lash lift treatment can only be applied to your natural lashes. If you arrive with extensions we cannot complete the lash lift service and you will be charged the full service fee for the reserved appointment time.

I currently have lash extensions on. Are you able to remove them prior to the Lash Lift?

If you’re thinking about removing your lash extensions, do not do it yourself. We recommend having them professionally removed or by the person who applied them. Avoid picking off your lashes at all costs!

I had a reaction to lash extensions, will I have a reaction to a lash lift?

It’s hard to say. Most people do not have any issues with the lash lift. If you have any concerns we recommend scheduling a patch test.

How long should I wait after having my extensions removed to have a lash lift?

That’s completely up to you and it depends on the condition of your natural lashes. Most clients will use a lash growth serum for a couple months after the removal of lash extensions to help grow the natural lashes. This is beneficial especially if the natural lashes were damaged or a shorter due to the extensions. Keep in mind the lashes should be at least 5mm long for a lash lift. Lash lift results can vary depending on length and condition.

Can I wear makeup and mascara after my Lash Lift?

Yes, you can wear mascara after your lash lift and tint—but it's important to wait at least 24–48 hours before applying any products to your lashes. This allows the lift to fully set and ensures long-lasting results.

In many cases, a lash tint gives the appearance of wearing mascara, so you may find you don’t need it at all!

If you do choose to wear mascara, we recommend using a non-waterproof formula. Waterproof mascaras can be difficult to remove and may cause damage or weaken the lift during removal.

How do I clean my eyes after a treatment?

Gently, using mild products. It is recommended that you wait 24-48 hours after the treatment before cleaning your eyes.

Can I use an eyelash curler after a Lash Lift?

No—there is no need to use an eyelash curler after your lash lift. This treatment delivers a longer-lasting, more natural-looking curl than a traditional curler.

In fact, using an eyelash curler after a lash lift is not recommended, as it can weaken or damage your lashes and compromise the results of the treatment.

Enjoy your lifted lashes—no extra tools required!

How often can I have a Lash Lift?

A lash lift will naturally begin to relax over time, typically around 6 to 8 weeks, as your lashes go through their normal growth cycle and gradually return to their natural shape.

If desired, the treatment can be safely repeated after a minimum of 5 weeks, depending on your lash condition and personal preference. Alternatively, you may wait until your lashes have fully returned to their natural state before scheduling your next lift.

Will I have a reaction to the lotion or tint?

Some clients may experience mild redness or irritation immediately after the lash lift treatment. This is usually temporary and subsides within a few minutes.

If you have sensitive skin or are concerned about potential reactions, a patch test is available and recommended. It should be scheduled at least three days prior to your appointment.

Your comfort and safety are our top priorities.

What is a patch test?

A patch test is recommended to ensure you do not have any allergies or sensitivities to the products used during the lash lift service.

We advise scheduling your patch test at least 3 days prior to your lash lift appointment.

What to Expect:

  • A small amount of each solution used in the lash lift process will be applied to a discreet area of your skin.

  • The area will be wiped clean and should be left undisturbed for 24 hours.

  • Please monitor for any signs of irritation such as itching, redness, or burning.

  • If no reaction occurs within 24 hours, you are cleared to safely proceed with your lash lift.

Patch testing helps us prioritize your comfort and safety during your service. Thank you for taking this important step in your lash care!

Should I spray tan before or after getting a Lash Lift?

To ensure the best results, any face, brow, or body treatments should be scheduled before your lash lift appointment.

After your lash lift, your lashes must remain dry for 24–48 hours. Exposure to oils, spray tanning solutions, or makeup during this time can weaken the lift and cause your lashes to relax prematurely.

Please plan accordingly to protect your beautiful new lift!

Is it okay to use a lash growth serum (i.e. lash boost) or oils after having a Lash Lift?

Yes. It is recommended that you wait 48 hours after having a Lash Lift to continue with your lash growth regimen.

I had a lash lift done at another salon. When can I schedule an appointment with you?

If you’ve recently had a lash lift performed elsewhere, we recommend waiting at least 6 weeks before scheduling your appointment with us. This allows your natural lash cycle to reset and ensures the best results from your next treatment.

Do you “lift” the bottom lashes?

No. We do not lift bottom lashes.

I’m pregnant. Can I get a lash lift?

For your safety and well-being, we cannot provide medical advice regarding pregnancy. Because every pregnancy is different, we strongly recommend that you consult with your doctor or obstetrician before scheduling a lash lift.

Your health and comfort are our top priorities.

My lashes grow straight down. Can I still get a lash lift?

In most cases, yes, although results will vary from person to person.

When should I schedule my next appointment?

Most clients schedule their next appointment after 5 weeks so previously lifted lashes and newly grown lashes will have a more uniform look.

What products do you use?

We use only the highest quality, professional-grade lash products available in the beauty industry to ensure safe, effective, and long-lasting results for every client.

Lash Tint:

What is a Lash Tint?

A Lash Tint is a semi-permanent color treatment that enhances your natural lashes by darkening them—giving the appearance of wearing mascara without smudging, running, or clumping. This treatment is especially effective for clients with naturally light-colored lashes (blonde, gray, or light brown), creating a more defined and eye-catching look.

Lash tints are often combined with a Lash Lift for the most dramatic results, helping your lashes truly stand out with added depth and definition.

Who would be a good candidate for a Lash Tint?

Eyelash tinting is especially great for individuals who participate in sports and tend to get sweaty since there’s no need for mascara. In addition, people who wear contact lenses can also benefit since they no longer have to worry about clumps of mascara getting into their eyes. The most dramatic results are seen with those who have naturally light colored (blonde, gray, light brown) lashes.

Do you tint bottom lashes too?

Yes! At Lash Lift RI we tint both the top and bottom eyelashes. Many other salons who offer this service only tint the top lashes. Results may vary depending on length and thickness of lower lashes.

How long does a Lash Tint last?

A lash tint lasts approximately 4-6 weeks, depending on your lash growth cycle.

Will a Lash Tint damage my natural lashes?

No, the dyes used are specifically made for lashes and cannot harm your lashes.

What color tint do you use?

Color choices are: Jet Black, Soft Black, or Dark Brown.
