Lash Lifting Regulations in Rhode Island: Professional License vs Certification
Is a Professional License REQUIRED to Perform Lash Lifts and Tints in Rhode Island? Absolutely YES!
Since 2016, the Rhode Island Department of Health has required a Professional License to perform lash lift services.
Response above is from Ms. Ellen Ruggieri, the R.I. Dept. of Health Chief Field Inspector, Board of Cosmetology regarding lash lift & tint services.
👉 What Lash Artists Can Do:
Licensed Lash Artists (also called “Lash Techs”) are permitted to perform lash extensions only.
They may not perform lash lifts, tints, brow tints, henna, laminations, or any other related services. A lash artist certification is required specifically for lash extensions.
👉 Why Licensing Matters:
Licensed professionals complete hundreds of hours of training, covering chemical safety, sanitation, and proper procedures.
A short course or “certification” does not replace a Professional License.
Out-of-state licenses are not valid for work in Rhode Island.
👉 The Risks of Unlicensed Services:
It is both dishonest and unethical to perform lash lifts or tints without a license. If you are unlicensed and offering these services, you must stop immediately. Cutting corners puts client health at serious risk.
👉 For Clients:
Your eyes and lashes are delicate and deserve expert care. Don’t put your health in the hands of someone unlicensed or undertrained. Always verify that your lash professional holds the proper Rhode Island Professional License.
True professionals never take shortcuts. They invest in their education, respect regulations, and put your safety first.
